There’s something truly special about intimate weddings in Montana, where the wild beauty of the landscape matches the warmth and connection of the people gathered to celebrate. As a Kalispell wedding photographer, I feel so grateful to witness and document these moments—none more heartfelt than Katrina & Cody’s riverside wedding along the Swan River in Bigfork near Kalispell.
The day began at a cozy rental nearby, where Katrina was surrounded by her closest friends as she got ready. Laughter echoed through the rooms as her bridesmaids helped with the finishing touches, and you could feel the excitement building for the day ahead. One sweet moment: during bridesmaid photos, a ladybug landed on Katrina’s dress—a little sign of good luck that everyone noticed and celebrated. (Later, during their adventure session, another ladybug would make an appearance on Cody!)
When we arrived at the private property along the Swan River, the scene was nothing short of magical. Katrina and Cody had strung twinkling string lights through the trees and set up long tables right along the riverbank, creating a space that felt both enchanted and welcoming.
Before the ceremony, Katrina shared a tearful first look with her dad, and later with her mom—moments full of emotion and love that I was honored to capture. As guests began to gather, we heard the call of a bald eagle overhead and looked up to see it soaring above the trees, accompanied by another bird. Katrina and Cody took it as another wonderful sign for the day, and I was lucky enough to catch a photo of the moment.
Katrina’s brother officiated the ceremony, making it even more meaningful. To add a bit of fun, they played a game where the ring box was taped under one of the pews, and guests had to look for it. It was her other brother who discovered it, adding a playful, memorable twist to the proceedings.
The ceremony itself was full of laughter, happy tears, and heartfelt vows. The couple’s love for each other—and for their families—was evident in every glance and every word. Afterward, everyone gathered for dinner along the riverbank, the tables glowing under string lights as the sun streamed through the trees. Kids ran and played among the pines, their laughter blending with the sounds of the river. It was a scene that felt both timeless and completely unique to Katrina & Cody.
