First we have to talk about what is the Hill Country because to be frank, it is huge and everyone is talking about a little bit different areas when they refer to the Hill Country. It can vary from the hills of Austin to the huge rolling hills and canyons of the area around Vanderpool. It is officially known as the Edwards Plateau and if you want to learn more about the geology of this region you can read about it on the Texas Parks and Wildlife website. For this list though, we’re going to focus on the area from Dripping Springs over to Fredericksburg and down to Bandera and over to Camp Wood, you can check out my interactive map above.
The Hill Country is arguably the most beautiful area in Texas and it’s known for it’s gorgeous views and vistas as well as it’s limestone cliffs and clear rivers. The sleepy towns further West are my personal favorite and I have a little tip later for you on how to find a gorgeous location for your I Do’s.
As a Hill Country wedding and elopement photographer who has grown up loving the Hill Country and visiting every chance I get, I have come to learn some serious advantages to the Hill Country. The area has unmatched beauty, especially with the vistas and limestone cliffs, but the towns are also quintessential small towns with just enough going on that you will have plenty to enjoy but just quiet enough that they’re an escape from the bustle of everyday life. The Hill Country also enjoys a micro-climate (I recently learned that fun fact at the Medina Love Creek Orchards) which is why it has such nice weather even in the summer – at least in comparison to the more humid areas nearby.

Since I specialize in micro weddings and elopements, I compiled this list with intimate celebrations centered in nature in mind. Think views, water features and lodging for you closest people so you can really disconnect from the day to day life and enjoy your wedding weekend. In my opinion, the perfect Hill Country wedding venue has nature and views as well as lodging flexible spaces you can make your own, here are a few venues I have found that I think might be perfect for you.
These are some venues I have researched and admired from afar but haven’t yet had the opportunity to photograph, if any of these venues feel like where you imagine your dream wedding, I would absolutely love to photograph your wedding here! Reach out to tell me about your vision and learn more about my special rates for these venues.
If you want to really experience a Hill Country wedding, this venue has a little bit of everything the area has to offer. The gorgeous Frio River will be the backdrop to your wedding and you can float and relax on site your whole wedding weekend. The property has cabins and RV hookups for your wedding guests to enjoy your destination wedding weekend.
In my mind, I picture you and your closest people arriving for a chill weekend and spending Friday floating the Frio before sharing an intimate welcome dinner on site or nearby. On Saturday, you have a quiet morning before saying your vows on the banks of the river and dancing the night away. Sunday you can get dressed back up and head to a local state park for private vows and couples photos either on a hill country overlook or in the Frio river with limestone cliffs surrounding you.
This venue is on my wedding bucketlist for a good reason. For couples who want a wedding that feels like a nature retreat, Walden Retreats offers luxury glamping tents, a stunning lodge, and sweeping views over the Pedernales River. The venue’s lawn, communal fire pit, and living plant wall create a serene, immersive experience for you and your guests. It feels like elevated summer camp with just enough elegance and fun.
With multiple wedding spaces and group lodging, this gorgeous Texas venue is iconic. Set near Fredericksburg there is no shortage of views and things to do. Imagine your intimate wedding on the bluff and dancing the night away in the hall before relaxing for the weekend in a cabin.

Although I have already photographed a wedding at Cedars Ranch it is still on my bucket list, it was that fun of a venue!

La Via Rosa Estate has options for every size of intimate weddings from 10 to 40 guests and prides itself on being an intimate escape near Austin.
I just photographed an intimate wedding at Hillside at Red Rock and could not get over the sky deck! It was mid June which is usually a pretty hot time for a Texas wedding but the way the wind hits that hill had the whole area feeling so good and the view was incredible. There are also cabins on site for up to 20 guests so you can hang out all weekend with your people at the windmill pool while you watch deer graze in the nearby fields.
Lucky Arrow always seems to be adding new things to the property! They have two pools and yurts and cabins to provide a full on retreat experience for you and your guests. Imagine saying I Do at sunset on their overlook deck and sharing an intimate dinner tucked into their trees.
Willow Ridge has stunning views as well as cabins for lodging and an RV park. Plus Camp Fimfo has tons of activities to enjoy and spend quality time enjoying.

Antler Oaks offers both Hill Country views, the nearby Medina river and a huge lodge reception space. Nestled outside of Bandera where there is always something going, you’ll have plenty of live music and events to explore.
A little bit different option but Longhorn Caverns offers such a unique wedding experience.
Another cave makes the list! This state park also has designated spaces for weddings and is truly beautiful! Nearby, Boerne has plenty to do and lodging for your guests.

Nestled in the Hill Country close to the Cowboy Capital of the world, this venue offers sweeping views of the rolling hills, on site lodging and flexible spaces that can accommodate intimate groups all the way up to 200 guests.

Choosing your Hill Country wedding venue is about finding a space that feels authentic to your story. Consider your guest count, preferred style, and the atmosphere that matches your vision—whether that’s rustic, elegant, modern, or intimate. Think about indoor and outdoor options, guest accommodations, and the amenities that matter most to you. Touring your top choices and imagining your celebration in each space will help you discover the venue that truly feels like home for your wedding day.
If you’re wanting to pan a elopement or a micro wedding with less than 15 people that opens the door to a different option for you. My personal recomendation to couples is to choose the views and location you want and then go to Airbnb. Once you know a town you want to make your home base, you can search for a property on Airbnb that gives you the views you want and can house your closest loved ones. You do have to verify with the lost that they will allow a wedding but once you have their blessing you can start planning a truly unique wedding!
If you need help, I do offer planning support for my elopement and micro wedding couples, all you need to know is what type of views you’re hoping for and I help you from their.
